ASICS FUJI TRAIL TEAM REPORT #13

For the first time this year, despite a few races on the programme, it was a weekend without  victory for the team!

 But there are still plenty of reasons for satisfaction: 

Concerning the athlete's health :  Sara's return to form and full health on the Restonica, and the end of a bout of fatigue for Kirsteen. 

Some fine lessons in courage and determination for Andreu who, despite a fall and an impressive injury, is continuing and performing well on the Val d'Aran,  Esther, who was leading all night on the Restonica, was unable to carry on after a fall and a serious sprain. 

Finally, there were some bright smiles full of energy, with Maeva taking her first podium in the UTMB series and Lukas, the only European to compete with the Kenyans in the mountain running world cup. 
 

The plan to refocus on the 50K format is proving a real success for Marcos, who is putting in a string of performances in this format with great regularity, and all the indicators are green for him at the start of the summer. https://www.instagram.com/p/C9AcjR-oq9K/?hl=fr&img_index=2

We parted company with Andreu after his success at the KAI UTMF in Japan, which he had to manage with an injury. A good period of rest and a new development cycle enabled him to tackle this new objective in full possession of his abilities, but mountain racing has its unpleasant surprises in store. 

Victim of a fall and an impressive head injury, retirement seemed inevitable. Treated by the race doctor and after assessing his condition, Andreu decided to resume the race, in 7th position and a long way behind ... a long chase began and in the end 2nd place, 7 minutes from victory. Well done mate!

There are smiles that make you happy, 
Maeva always gives her all and takes all the risks, whatever the race or distance. This time, in the UTMB event series, she came 2nd in a high-level race. To share the Maeva's race :

We left her in Zegama, on a hospital bed with severe double pneumonia, and since then she has shown her determination and maturity. 

After mourning the loss of Zegama and suffering depression, she has been able to look after herself, be patient and then resume training, step by step to regain her full health. A fine first part of the race in the lead through the night and the Corsican mountains for Esther, but a few crashes and a badly sprained ankle... and all bets are off.

Lukas races in the mountains in search of the highest confrontation, and that's what he found in Grossklokner   with an "army of African riders". He came through this confrontation very well, finishing in the same second as the 4th-placed rider and winning both the race and the overall U23 world cup standings.
